On October 14, 2023, with clear skies and pleasant weather, over 30 alumni from the 2003 Law Master program returned to their alma mater CUPL from all over the country. They gathered to reminisce about their time on campus and reconnect with their teachers and classmates. The event was attended by Prof. JIAO Hongchang, Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Juris Master, Prof. FU Qilin (retired) from the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School, Prof. HAN Wensheng, Chair of the Council of the School of Juris Master, SU Yu, Secretary of the Youth League Committee and Instructor of the School of Juris Master, as well as LI Jianhong, the Acting Director of the General Office of the School of Juris Master.
Prof. HAN Wensheng delivered a welcoming speech to the classmates as they returned to campus on the occasion of their 20th graduation anniversary. He looked back on the development of the Law Master program at the university and provided an overview of the progress made by the School of Juris Master since its establishment in 2005. The school has gradually built a strong faculty comprising highly capable teachers and attracted high-quality students. The integration of Party building into the School’s development has yielded excellent results in fostering healthy atmosphere, building positive images, etc., and the school has produced numerous outstanding graduates. He also highlighted the implementation of the dual-supervisor system and the establishment of a scholarship system based on social resources, which were designed to support students’ growth and development. General Secretary Xi Jinping visited CUPL in 2017 and proposed the concept of “combining moral education with law training”, providing a fundamental guideline for nurturing high-quality legal talents. The School will be committed to continuously enhancing the quality of talents cultivation to provide qualified legal talents for society. Prof. HAN extended his best wishes to the alumni and hope them to cherish their bond as graduates of the School of Juris Master, relive their school life, foster emotional connections, have intellectual discussions, mobilize various forces, pool resources, promote the development of the School, cultivate outstanding talents, promote the rule of law, and help build the rule of law in China.
Prof. JIAO Hongchang, as the representative of the faculty, gave them a lecture. He extended a warm welcome to the alumni’s arrival and looked back on the days when they spent time together in the classroom and on the basketball court. Prof. JIAO shared his experiences as a lecturer and expressed his sincere hopes for the alumni. While social democracy and the Rule of Law is being strengthened, numerous temptations arise, so every legal practitioner should hold the bottom line of the rule of law and stay upright. Also, he encouraged them to find joy in serving others and stay happy and healthy in work and life. He pointed out that the individual contributions within one’s capabilities benefit the well-being of one’s family, organization, school, society and country. Prof. JIAO concluded by inspiring them to translate their thoughts, beliefs and values into tangible actions, as this will lead to a better future for a nation, a government and a future under the rule of law.
Prof. FU Qilin, a lecturer, warmly welcomed the alumni’s arrival. He reflected on the significant historical changes in the country and society, as well as their connection to individual development, and emphasized that the development of individuals and society is closely interconnected. He encouraged the alumni to realize their personal value by serving society, and expressed his earnest hope for them to continue learning for comprehensive development, as well as his sincere wishes for all to make contributions and achieve success in their positions while ensuring the well-being of their families.
As the alumni representative in the 2003 Law Master program, ZHOU Zhengxun expressed gratitude for the alumni association and the School of Juris Master for organizing the homecoming. He stated that after departing from the School of Juris Master, they gathered here once again. The three years they spent with each other here created a bond among them. They are always a member of the School. During their time at the School, under the guidance of the legal masters, they acquired knowledge and shaped their personality. Upon leaving the campus, the alumni have always kept the spirit of “the rule of law governing the world” in mind. They have strived to fulfil their responsibilities and make their best in their respective positions. ZHOU Zhengxun mentioned that the alumni have consistently upheld the principles and spirit of the rule of law in various fields, making incremental contributions to the nation and society. The education they received at the School of Juris Master has instilled in them the genes of the School, enabling them to keep caring for society in the legal professional community. They continue to pursue the essence of the law and uphold high moral standards. In the end, he extended his best wishes for the continued success of CUPL, hoping that it would become a top institution at the national and international level.
Alumni representative GUAN Hong, in his speech, highlighted that after graduation, everyone has shone in their respective positions. Returning to the school after 20 years allows them to reflect on their original aspiration and set their foot on a new journey. Today’s lecture gave them an opportunity to reflect on themselves once again so as to become better individuals and serve their country. While forging ahead, they carry the noble principles of CUPL in their hearts -- “Be righteous, professional and diligent for public.”

In the blink of an eye, it has been20 years since their graduation Over these two decades, the alumni have made remarkable achievements in their respective fields. We sincerely hope that they will continue to uphold the spirit of CUPL, keep their country in mind, and make even greater contributions to the prosperity, rule of law, and civilization of China.
