On the night of December 13, 2019, the School of Juris Master in China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) held the “Endeavor & Passion” 2020 New Year’s Party at the auditorium of Changping Campus. Attended by all the students in the School, the event was graced by the presence of leaders including Prof. XU Shenjian, Dean of the School; Prof. HAN Wensheng, Party Secretary of the School; Prof. LIU Zhihui, Deputy Dean; LIANG Min, Deputy Dean; as well as teachers’ representatives from the Office of the School, the Teaching and Research Office, the Student Work Office, and representatives of students winning the 2019 scholarship and grants from societyfrom the School of Juris Master.
Theparty started with the remarks of Prof. XU Shenjian. First, Mr. Xu wished everyone good luck in the new year. Then, he reviewed 2019, in which the School of Juris Master developed fast and made remarkable achievements thanks to the concerted efforts of all the teachers and students and the funding by all stakeholders. Finally, Mr. Xu was hopeful that everyone would stay true to their original aspiration, striving to “do better” in the upcoming 2020.
At the awarding ceremony, ceremonial staff presented awards to the “Top 10 Teachers” of the School for the 2018–2019 academic year as well as to the representatives of students winning the 2019 scholarship and grants from society. First, the representatives of the “Top 10 Teachers” respectively expressed their thanks and wishes to all the teachers and students. Then, these representatives presented the “Siyuan Tianming JIANG Ming Growth Scholarship”, the “Youheng Yangguang Scholarship”, the “04 Juris Master Scholarship”, the “Yuecheng Scholarship”, the “Dentons Criminal Defense Scholarship”, and the “HU Debing Scholarship and Grants” tothestudents winning the 2019 scholarship and grants from society, and appreciated social forces for their encouragement and care to students.
Theparty offered a wide range of programs including traditional art and athletic singing and dancing. Students were proactive to participate in the event, regarding it as a stage to show themselves.
The opening danceCoincidenceset the stage ablaze. LIN Lin and WANG Chao jointly sang a beautiful, loving songAs Long as You Are There for Me. In the relaxing danceA Bit Sweet, two dancers ZHANG Ziyao and ZHANGQianworked perfectly well together. What’s more, there was athletic Korean dance, which was particularly popular with young students. In the performanceFour Essentials for Saying I Love You, students demonstrated their proficiency at both the language and singing, providing the audience with a fantastic audio-visual feast.
The humorous sketchThe Great Magicianproved a big surprise to the audience. TheCup Danceby all the students of Class 1903 was both creative and amusing. Students performing a medley of foreign songs exhibited their superb linguistic talent and were well received by the audience.
The Story of the Stone—Persuading Lin Daiyuby WANG Xuheng broughtaclassic Shaoxing Opera program to the audience, enabling them to catch a glimpse of traditional Chinese opera. The guitar accompanied by vocals was highly infectious, reminiscent of the past years. YANG Chenxu delivered powerful, overwhelming kungfu performance, implying the perseverance of the students of the School and demonstrating the soul of Chinese kungfu. The vigorous poetry recitationMy Homelanddepicted the grandeur of China, expressing the students’ deep love for their motherland.
Many interactive activities warmed students on the chilly winter night. They actively exchanged New Year’s greetings,and participated in lucky drawand real-time interactions on the WeChat wall.
Against sparkling neon lights, each program looked like a feast about dream and talent. In the end, a thumping recitation capped theparty. Now, at the turn of 2020, the 14-year-old School of Juris Master is aiming high, committed to achieving more in the coming years.
